A Racing Story

If you have been around Voices Won much, you have probably heard me talk about my son, Jonah, racing motorcycles. Saturday, May 22, he entered a six-hour team race with his friend, Laska Gaddy. They won first place in the 65cc 2 stroke 10-11 year old class. Together, they completed 30 laps at 3.2 miles each.

Last year, Jonah was the points champion in the same class in the Southern Off Road Championship Series (sorcs.net). He competed in 11 races with 9 first place finishes.

We are very proud of Jonah’s accomplishments. Please keep him in your prayers that God will watch over him as he continues to do what he loves so much!

Some Good News

Hey Friends,

I hope that everyone is doing well. I haven’t written in a while but I think this story will make up for lost time.

On Jan.13 VW was singing at a revival service at my home church. During the invitation at the end of service there was an awesome moving of the Spirit. People just kept coming forward. During this time I could see my 10 year old son, Jonah, peeking out into the aisle and I could see that he was crying. Then I saw my wife lean down and start talking to him. She ask him did he want to go pray. At first he said no and sat back down. A little later I saw them talking again and then he stepped out and started walking to the front. I laid my microphone down and met my son at the altar. My wife and I knelt beside him and led him to the Lord. A few days later on Jan. 17 Jonah was baptized.

There have been many really cool things that I have seen and done, but let me tell you right now that nothing compares to this. Seeing someone give their life to Jesus Christ, whether family or not is the greatest thing in life.

I hope this story encourages you, I know that it does me. I hope to see you all real soon.

Friday Night

Wow! What else can you say? The Crist Family was absolutely awesome. It’s not only how well they sing, it’s the spirit that they sing in. This is one group you definitely need to go see the next chance you get. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Valuable Lesson

I learned a very valuable lesson Sunday morning while singing at Valley View Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN. This was our second time to sing there and we had been looking forward to it for quite some time. However, the last time we were there I had a little fun at the pastor’s expense. Big mistake! He had broken his leg a few months before and he showed us a video of his softball accident, and for some reason it just struck me funny. I couldn’t stop laughing at him.

I am a Georgia Bulldog fan and proud of it. Recently the Georgia Bulldogs and the Tennessee Vols played and the outcome was in favor of Tennessee (Georgia got whooped) 45-19. So as the pastor was introducing us to his congregation he mentioned the fun I had at his expense. He had not forgotten. He then pulled out a pink Georgia hat and presented it to me in front of his congregation.

The lesson? Don’t mess with Justin Pratt or any other pastor if you ever think you’ll be going back to their church to sing.

P.S. – I would rather wear a pink Bulldog cap than a Vols hat any day.
