Hunter loves school, plays football for his high school team, AND has his driver’s permit.  Please allow me to tell you all… I am eating my words…I am NOT almost finished.  I now ride in the passenger’s seat with a 15 year old learning how to drive.  Please Lord help me.

Now the latest, spring football practice started last week. The second day of spring camp Hunter is tackled and broke his hand.  That’s right second day – broken hand.  Did I mention I have been eating words?

Micheal and Eric are already grown and moved out and Hunter is not far behind.  Time flies by so fast.  What I would give to trade driving with broken bones for bottles and diapers again.

Cross Pointe is a wonderful venue with plenty of parking.  The concert starts at 7:00 pm.  Come early to fellowship with us and support the churches’ youth department.  Snacks are served at 5:15 and you can grab your seat at 6:00.

Merry Christmas!!

For the past seven years my brothers and I have been honored to sing for this service.  This year 600 people or so were in attendance.  You could see the pain on so many faces.  Every circumstance and situation imaginable, from elderly Mothers and Fathers passing to just 2 weeks prior losing a 16 year old son in a tragic car accident.    All were sad and all are facing a sad Holiday Season.

This year at the close of the service, a little boy who I am guessing to be 6 or 7 years old,  came to the platform handing me a picture he had been working on the past hour or so.  The drawing said “Jesus” very creatively.  While thanking and hugging him I asked “did you lose someone special this year?” To which he replies, “my Dad”.  My heart broke for him, but also at that moment I was convicted to be in prayer for his family and also others suffering such grief.

All of us have and will experience the loss of a loved one, and all of us have and  will experience the first Christmas without them.  Although the sadness and hurt are great,  His Grace is sufficient.

Sandy and I observe Halloween somewhat different than the average household, I guess.  With our youngest being 15 and the trick or treat days well behind us, we pull out the lawn chairs, sit at the front door and pass out candy to all the little ones.   We love it!!  However, we only celebrate Halloween from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

After that…IT’S ON!!  And I am talking about the Christmas lights!!  At 8:01 every October 31st Christmas begins at our house.  It takes a few days to get all of the decorations up, but at the very least the Christmas tree is lit up and the wreath is on the door.

If you think this is strange, weird, or crazy, you are not alone.  I hear about it every year, “why so early”?   My family loves the Christmas season so much and we want to enjoy it as long as we can.  Just to be perfectly honest, the Christmas music starts even earlier.  Come to think of it – it never stops.

My favorite Christmas tune is “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” with the favorite rendition by Andy Williams.  This song is so true.  Can you imagine if the same thoughtfulness, love, smiles, time spent with family, generosity, candy, sharing, and joy filled the rest of the year like this season? We would all put our decorations up earlier.  That’s it…next year I start decorating for Jesus’ Birthday on Ground Hog Day!!

Sandy and I found a book that is full of marriage advice from couples that have been married 50 plus years.  The more I read it the more I realize these folks know exactly what they are talking about.  Here are some of my favorites quotes…

“Never get too old to hold hands.”
“Always treat your wife like a lady”
“Enjoy the simple things – like looking at a sunset.”
“Curl up on the couch and look at wedding pictures.”
“First make a commitment to the Lord, then to each other.”

You may or may not have been married for over 50 years, but I am sure that many of you have some great advice or stories you could share for a successful marriage.  Lets hear it!  Who knows, we may be able to write our own book together.

On Friday Night November 13th our friends the Crist Family will be making their first appearance with us.  This talented family just won the 2009 Singing News Fan Awards Horizon Group of the year at the National Quartet Convention.  If you have never heard them,  come and be prepared to be blown away by their singing and incredible story of Faith.

On Saturday Night November 14th both Mark Bishop and Karen Peck and New River will be back.  Mark is a staple at all of our events and no plans to change yet.  His singing and songwriting always blesses hearts. And what can you say about the award winning New River.  Karen, Susan, and Devon are always a crowd favorite.

Advance tickets are only $10 per night or get a 2 night pass for only $15!!  Both are available right here at our web site store.  The price for tickets purchased at the door is $12 nightly.

Almost forgot…come HUNGRY.  Our Mother always has something good cooked up to eat right there at Ryman Hall.  The doors will open at 5:30 each night and dinner will be served before and during the concert.  I will post a menu as the date approaches.
